Joffrey Lakes

On the weekend Scott, Dima, Thomas and I took an overnight snowshoeing trip up at Joffrey Lakes. We had clear skies on both days and after an easy trip up (despite losing the trail and having to forge our own), we built our accommodation for the night. Scott, Dima and I piled up snow to build a quinzee while Thomas got started on a snow cave. After a walk to let the quinzee settle, Thomas and I finished off the snow cave while Dima and Scott dug out the quinzee. We all slept in the quinzee (fitted four easily), but the snow cave was pretty darn cool. On the Sunday we snowshoed up to Tszil Pass and headed back, sunburnt, tired and happy.

Being a stranger to snow, I am continuously stunned by its beauty and variety. A snowy winter landscape on a sunny day can be breathtaking, and the types of snow and the sounds produced by walking across it or turning a ski pole in it are amazingly varied. BC has some gorgeous scenery.
